Alzheimer’s disease, or simply Alzheimer’s, is a disease that causes dementia in older people. Alzheimer’s dementia usually affects people who are older than 65 years of age, and is degenerative in nature. This condition is marked by forgetfulness, which affects not only difficulty in remembering the names of people and places but even words, and the consequent inability to communicate with others, frustration, anger and unpredictable mood swings, confusion, withdrawal and similar personality disorders. Lapses of memory in which a person is unable to recall recently acquired information is one of the earliest symptoms Alzheimer dementia manifests itself through. Alzheimer’s cure is not possible since it is a terminal disease that impairs the mental health of a person gradually in stages. The different stages of Alzheimer’s are predementia, early dementia, moderate dementia and advanced dementia. The first stage is characterized by symptoms like forgetfulness, difficulty in abstract thinking and distraction, which are often mistakenly assumed to be the natural signs of ageing. In the second stage the patient begins to have difficulty in grasping new concepts and using language meaningfully and coherently. In the third stage the linguistic inability becomes more chronic as the patient loses the ability not only to use words properly but also to string them together into sentences. Difficulty in coordinating complex body movements, delusional experiences and incontinence also occur at this stage. In the fourth and final stage the patient often loses his skill with language completely, and often becomes mentally and physically debilitated completely.
Alzheimer treatment basically involves management, as it is not possible to cure this disease once it has set in. Alzheimer’s cure, in that sense, can consist only of preventive measures, though there is a good deal of debate regarding these too. It has been suggested that involving the brain in regular and rigorous exercises from childhood onwards keeps it in good health and makes it less prone to debility in old age. Food rich in vitamins and proteins is also supposed to be important for maintaining mental health. A generous daily intake of turmeric is supposed to keep this disease at bay. Blueberries are now believed to keep Alzheimer’s in check, as they are a rich natural source of vitamin E, which heals worn out nerves and restores general mental health. Pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds also help prevent Alzheimer’s. Besides these, inhaling a few drops of lemon juice added to hot water or, alternatively, heated sesame oil, through the nostrils helps relieve exhaustion in the patient.

Acne, technically known as acne vulgaris, is a common problem faced mostly by teenagers. The hair follicles underlying the skin contain glands at their roots which secrete a natural oily substance called sebum. When the blood circulating through these sebaceous glands contains impurities, small eruptions occur on the surface of the skin. The sebum trapped in the skin pores is pale in color and causes what are popularly called whiteheads. When it accumulates dust and dirt and comes into contact with air, it turns dark in color and turns into blackheads. It is also a commonly known fact that hormonal imbalance can also cause acne. Thus, adolescents often suffer from this condition, as the onset of puberty leads to a sudden increase in the production of the hormone testosterone, which triggers off the eruption of pimples on the face.
Though the use of cosmetic products is popularly advertised as a means of treatment for acne, it is advisable to adopt natural cures for acne, as these do not harm the skin in any way. To effectively treat acne diet should be paid great attention to, as what you eat greatly determines the natural health of your skin. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water daily. This helps flush out toxins from the body and naturally moisturizes the skin too. Eat lots of fruits and green and leafy vegetables. Avoid eating deep-fried, oily food and processed food rich in sugar or caffeine content. Also make sure that you wash your face with water frequently in order to keep it oil- and dirt-free. Besides these general measures, there are a few simple home remedies to get rid of acne. Mix one part of cinnamon powder with three parts of honey and apply this on the pimples before going to bed at night. Wash your face properly the next morning. Continue this routine for a few weeks for best results. Mixing a pinch of cinnamon powder in the juice of lime and applying it on acne also helps. Make a face pack by mixing equal portions of sandalwood powder and ground black gram in cold water and apply it on the affected area. Wash it off after it dries. Applying the pulp or the juice of cucumber not only reduces acne but also moisturizes the skin. Another popular remedy for acne is the paste of dried and powdered orange peel mixed with water.

An abscess is a cavity formed due to the decay of body tissue and the accumulation of pus in that cavity. The decay of tissue occurs when microbes invade the body through cuts or wounds. The formation of pus in the abscess is the body’s natural defense mechanism to contain and localize the microbial infection to a small, restricted area. There are three types of abscesses that affect teeth: gingival abscess, caused by injury or infection on the surface of gums; periodontal abscess, which affects the gums more deeply and causes the formation of pus within the gums; and periapical abscess, which infects the pulp of a tooth and accompanies tooth decay. Dental caries are one of the most common abscess causes, as they corrode the enamel and the dentin of teeth, allowing bacteria to invade and infect the tooth pulp and lead to pus formation. External injury may also sometimes cause abscesses. In some cases, an improper root canal surgery may also be followed by the formation of an abscess. Acute toothache and inflammation of the gums, sometimes accompanied with fever, foul breath and malodorous oral secretions are the most common abscess symptoms. Maintaining oral hygiene is the most effective way of preventing abscesses.
Any form of abscess treatment must involve purging the tooth or the gums of the pus, since this is the medium in which the bacterial growth takes place. There are a few popular means of natural cure of abscesses. Adding a few drops of clove oil into a small cup of water and using this as a mouthwash not only relieves pain but also kills bacteria in the affected region. Sometimes, direct application of clove oil to the abscess is also recommended. A mouthwash made by mixing small quantities of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda in a glass of water and using this after every meal also cures abscesses. Using black or green tea, to which no milk or sugar has been added, also helps. A few drops of iodine or, alternatively, tannic acid mixed with half a glass of water serves as an oral disinfectant solution. External application of onion juice and eucalyptus oil is known to help as well. Make a poultice by beating an egg with three tablespoons of white flour and heated slowly till it becomes a white paste. Apply this paste on piece of soft cotton cloth and dab the affected area with it.

ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a behavioral ailment in which children suffer from very short attention span and are often hyperactive. The most common symptoms of ADHD are lack of concentration, restlessness and unpredictable, impulsive actions in children. In many cases this condition is also marked by learning disabilities and emotional fragility and volatility in the patient. ADHD children may continue to suffer from this disease well into their adolescence and adulthood if they are not treated during childhood. Research shows that ADHD is primarily hereditary in nature, though no single gene has yet been proven to be solely causing this disease. There are a few environmental factors that might trigger off this disease. These include excessive consumption of alcohol and exposure to tobacco smoke through active or passive smoking during gestation. Complications during pregnancy and labor may also cause the newborn to be susceptible to this disease. Though there is disagreement within the medical community on the question of whether additives in food exacerbate ADHD, recent studies suggest that the popularly held notion that sugar and artificial colors in manufactured food items may actually not be responsible for causing this condition. Controversy also exists regarding the influence of social factors on patients suffering from AHDH. Though stress, trauma, and the inability to adapt with social environment have been put forward as possible causes for ADHD, there is no conclusive evidence to demonstrate a direct correspondence between these factors and youth health. There is also no standard accepted way of diagnosing this disease, since the nature, extent and frequency of its symptoms are differ widely from patient to patient.
Though natural cures for ADHD do not have universal applicability and recognition, a few dietary measures have been known to improve the condition is some cases. Among the ADHD natural remedies are including a greater number of fruits, raw vegetables, whole grains and cereals, which are rich source of essential proteins, iron and vitamins. Cutting down on the intake of common allergens like chocolate, dairy products, eggs, and artificially flavored and colored foodstuff is also recommended by some. Fish and flax seed oil contain omega 3’s, which are natural chemical agents that strengthen the nerves and are therefore considered as a means of ADHD natural treatment. Among other remedies are regular physical exercise, aerobics and yoga, and creative exercises designed specifically to channel the child’s excess energy into concentrated effort.
